Rules AGC Texas Scramble
1. Qualification / Tournament Structure
The tournament begins with 64 teams placed into groups based on geographical location. This is done to keep travel distances as short as possible. AGC actively works to plan matches in a way that minimizes travel.
However, all teams should be prepared for longer travel distances in certain regions.
The winning team in each group wins a trip to Lofoten Links – read more about the prize here.
The tournament requires a minimum number of registered teams to be conducted. If sufficient participation is not achieved in a specific region, AGC reserves the right to cancel the tournament in that area. In such cases, the participation fee will be fully refunded.
All participants must be 18 years or older at the time of travel to Lofoten Links.
2. Format of Play
Texas Scramble is played in 2-player teams where both players tee off.
The team then selects the best-positioned ball, and the other ball is picked up.
Both players then place their ball within one scorecard length from the selected ball, but not closer to the hole.
-
On the green, balls are placed at the same spot as the selected ball
-
In bunkers, balls are placed within one scorecard length, but must remain in the bunker
Each player must contribute at least 6 counted tee shots.
3. Handicap (HCP)
Participants must be members of a golf club and have an official handicap.
The maximum handicap for participation is 28. Players with a higher handicap may participate but will be adjusted to 28.
4. Teeing Ground
-
Men: Play from the standard men’s tee (e.g. 58/59)
-
Women: Play from the standard women’s tee (e.g. 48)
-
Mixed teams: Men play from men’s tees, women from women’s tees
Teams may agree to play from a different tee.
5. Score Registration
Results are registered in AGC HuB.
6. Handicap Calculation
AGC uses a percentage-based handicap model based on each player’s playing handicap (allocated strokes from the slope table).
The team playing handicap is calculated using the players’ individual handicaps, with different percentages depending on whether the handicaps are above or below 0.
When both players have a handicap of 0 or higher
-
35% of the lowest handicap + 15% of the highest handicap
When both players have a handicap below 0
-
105% of the lowest handicap + 110% of the highest handicap
When the team has a mix of handicaps above and below 0
-
105% of the player with a handicap below 0 + 15% of the player with a handicap of 0 or higher
In short:
The team handicap is a weighted combination of the players’ handicaps, where the stronger player carries the greatest weight.
All calculations are handled automatically in AGC HuB, which includes a built-in calculator. Players only need to enter the team playing handicap, and the number of strokes will be calculated automatically. Register in AGC HuB here.
Example:
If Team A receives 4 strokes and Team B receives 6 strokes, Team B receives 2 extra strokes. These strokes are allocated on holes with stroke index 1 and 2.
7. Tie
If a match is tied after 18 holes, it will be decided by sudden death.
If this is not possible (e.g. due to daylight, course availability, or weather conditions), the match will be decided using the scorecard method:
-
Last 9 holes
-
Last 6 holes
-
Last 3 holes
-
Hole 18
If still tied, scores from hole 17 and backwards will be compared until a winner is determined.
8. Use of Equipment
All types of distance measuring devices, including slope functionality, are allowed.
Golf carts are permitted.
9. Local Rules
Play must follow the local rules of the course where the match is played.
This includes, among other things:
-
Dropping procedures
-
Out of bounds (OB) rules
-
Ground under repair (GUR)
-
Other course-specific conditions
Local rules are stated on the scorecard or available in the clubhouse.
10. Disqualification
Teams may be disqualified for:
-
Violations of the above tournament rules
-
Manipulation of handicap
-
Unsportsmanlike conduct
All participants must follow the official Rules of Golf and act with integrity and respect to ensure a fair and positive competition.
11. Disqualification
AGC expects all teams to make a genuine effort to find a match time that works for both parties within the scheduled round period. If the match still cannot be completed before the deadline, AGC will conduct a random draw to decide which team advances to the next round.
We therefore recommend that teams start the dialogue early and remain flexible when planning their match.
